John Wyeth (Principal)

John W. Wyeth, 77, 1522 N. Winnebago St., died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 1988, in his home after an extended illness.  Born Nov. 22, 1911, in Charleston, son of Arthur B. and Margaret Woodall Wyeth.  Lived 48 years in Rockford.  Married Margaret Bullock in Indianapolis, Ind., Dec. 23, 1950.  Came to Rockford in 1941 as teacher and basketball coach at West High School; 1952 named assistant principal at West; and in 1960 when Auburn High School opened, he was first principal, retiring in 1978.  World War II Army veteran.  Member First Presbyterian Church, Rockford Rotary Club and Rockford Society of Archeaeological Institute of America.  Graduated from Eastern Illinois University with bachelor’s degree, received master’s degree from University of Illinois.  Survivors include his wife, Margaret; son George B. (Julie), Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandsons, Nathan and Theodore, Minneapolis; and brother, George A. Wyeth, Houston, Texas.
Memorial service at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 23, in First Presbyterian Church sanctuary, with the Rev. W. Kent Clise, pastor, officiating.  Interment at Charleston.
