EDBERT JOHN MUETH, 85 DAKOTA - Edbert John Mueth, of Dakota, Illinois, age 85, wonderful husband, father and grandfather (Opa), passed away on Saturday, June 15th, in his home. He was born on May 6th, 1928, in Mascoutah, Illinois to August F. and Margaret (Neff) Mueth. He developed his strong work ethic while growing up on his family's dairy farm. He graduated from Our Lady of the Ozarks High School, Carthage, Missouri. He continued his schooling by earning a BA in philosophy from DeMazenod Scholasticate, San Antonio, Texas and then received a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Southern Illinois University. Mr. Mueth worked as a secondary school administrator for 34 years, five years as Principal at Dakota High School and the last 20 years in the Rockford School District before retiring in 1989. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1952-1954. A dedicated member of St. Joseph's Church in Freeport, Illinois, he served as lector, usher, member of the first Catholic School Board in Freeport, and past member of the St. Joseph's Parish Council. He was a long standing member of the Freeport Knights of Columbus. Mr. Mueth was a talented baseball player and coached the sport through his early years in education. In his later years he invested his love of baseball in being a passionate St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a lover of card games and a true "green thumb" who grew brilliant gardens each year. He took his wife and children every summer on vacations up North, many years as far as Canada to fish and swim. His favorite times were spent with his family and his beloved wife whom he married on May 30th, 1959. A constant, stoic presence, Mr. Mueth committed his life to his family and his faith. He is survived by his devoted wife, Grace (Broughton); daughters, Jeanne (Col. David, Ret. USAF) Glogowski of Tampa, Fl., Mary Mueth (Karen Sadler) of Berwyn, Il., Susan (Kirk) Benters of Pecatonica, Il., Kathryn Mueth (Josh) Gladstone of East Hampton, NY; son, James (Rachelle) Mueth of Hazelhurst, WI.; granddaughters, Anastasia (Dayne) Carraway, Kristen and Megan Glogowski, Danielle, Madison, and Katy Mueth; grandsons Zachary and Nickolai Mueth, Joshua and Drew Benters, and August Gladstone; brothers Arnold (Pat), Norbert (Pat), August Jr. (Jan), Cyrus and David Mueth; sisters, Verena (Cletus) Kreher, Bertilia Jefferson, and Margaret Mende; sister-in-laws, Lolly Mueth and Marietta Broughton; as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth; and brothers, N. Peter and Daniel Mueth. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 19th, at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota, Il. Rosary will be said at 3:30 p.m. prior to visitation time. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Freeport, Il. on Thursday, June 20th, with Msgr. Robert Sweeney presiding. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Freeport.
