MARGARET DOROTHY DAHLGREN, 90 ROCKFORD - Margaret Dorothy Dahlgren, 90, of Rockford passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in Rockford Me-morial Hospital. She was born July 24, 1922, in Rockford, the daughter of Christian and Marie (Langerud) Danielsen. Margaret graduated from Rockford Senior High School in 1940, and received her bachelor of arts degree from Rockford College in 1944, and her master of arts degree in teaching in 1973, from Rockford College. She was a student in the First International Summer School in Oslo, Norway, in 1947. Margaret married Ivar Bror Dahlgren on Aug. 9, 1952, in Rockford. She taught history and social studies in the Rockford schools for many years, initially at Washington Junior High School and later at Auburn High School. She served on the Governor's Bicentennial Commission on Education. Margaret was a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she was active in many areas of the church through the years. She was a long-standing member of the Sons of Norway and eagerly shared her knowledge of and enthusiasm for Scandinavian language and the culture with others. She is survived by son, Anders (Marcia Thomas) Dahlgren of Normal; granddaughters, Karin and Anna-Lisa Dahlgren; extended family, John (Marianne) Wahlquist and Barb (Mick) Manne and their families. Predeceased by her husband, Ivar; sister, Anne Ferling; brother, Walter Danielsen; and lifelong best friend, June Wahlquist. Service at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St., with visitation from 9 to 10:45 a.m.; the Revs. Jeff Fricke and Loren Nielsen will officiate. Private family burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road.
