Louis J. “Lou” DeRango, 76, of Rockford, died at 7:50 p.m. Monday, February 24, 1992, in Saint Anthony Medical Center.  Born Sept. 5, 1915, in Berwyn.  Married Joyce Eriksen in Rockford on Sept. 24, 1966.  Worked with the Chicago Park District prior to moving to Rockford; and then taught at St. Thomas High School from 1949 to 1960.  Operated the Lou DeRango Insurance Agency from 1960 to 1965.  Also taught at Auburn High School from 1963 until retiring in 1986.  Had been involved in real estate since his retirement.  Veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.  Member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he served as an usher and money counter.  Member of Knights of Columbus, Marine Corps League, AMBUCS and Rockford Housing Authority Board.  Past president of Serra Club and Northwest Community Board.  Member of Holy Name Society of St. Peters Church; 15-year member of Illinois VICA board.  Served on the organizational board for Little League Baseball.  One of the founder of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and active in many other civic organizations.  Survivors include his wife, Joyce, Rockford; children, Patricia (Bob) Ring, Peoria, Peggy (Ralph) Smith, Downers Grove, Connie (Steve) Sidebottom, Canyon Lake, Texas, Donna (Tony) Perrone, Dennis (Kim) DeRango, Steve (Char) DeRango, John (Geri Ann) DeRango, Rick (Peggy) DeRango, Terri (Gary) Holt, Jerry DeRango and Chris (Beth) DeRango, all of Rockford; 19 grand-children; and two nephews.  Predeceased by his first wife, Marguerite, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral Mass was Thursday, Feb. 27, in Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Daniel J. Hermes as celebrant.  Burial in Calvary Cemetary.  Arrangements by Anderson-Long-Klontz Funeral Home, Court Street at Park Avenue.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to; American Cancer Society, 850 N.
