Emmett Collins (Class Of 1974)

Emmett L. Collins, 47, of South Bend, Ind., departed his earthly home, bound for eternity Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in Healthwin Specialty Care Center in South Bend. He was born Nov. 8, 1955, in Huntington Park, Calif., to Carolyn J. and Emmett Collins Sr. Emmett graduated from Auburn High School in Rockford, class of 1974. He married his high school sweetheart, Tamara Martin in 1985, and was blessed with two loving children. Emmett was employed by Sullair Corp., (a subsidiary of Hamilton Sundstrand, a UTC company) in Michigan City, Ind., and Sundstrand Aerospace in Rockford for more than 20 years. He as an avid sportsman who loved golf, fishing, bowling, darts and softball. He was actively involved in a variety of community and volunteer organizations in Illinois and Indiana, and was a member of the 4A Team at his church, River of Life, in South Bend. Emmett was raised in the church, attending Providence Baptist Church of Rockford throughout his youth and into adulthood. He re-dedicated his life to Christ and joined River of Life Church of Michiana in 2001. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Tamara D. Collins; daughter and two sons, Kelli L. Collins and Justin L. Collins, both of Granger, Ind., and Myshawn Nance of Buffalo, N.Y.; parents, Rozene and Emmett Collins Sr.; sisters, Gwendolyn Hardiman, Jacqueline Collins and Alexis Franklin; brother, Doug (Gale) Anderson; and god daughter, Ashley Crawford, all of Rockford. Emmett was blessed to have many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He also had a special friend who was like a brother, his cousin, Gerald Bell of Rockford. Predeceased by his mother, Carolyn J. Collins; and grandparents, A.D. Lott Sr., Octavia Lott and Sadie Mae Blakney.

Service will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in Providence Baptist Church, 2209 Clifton Ave., with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon. Pastor John F. Senter will be officiating.
