Steven D. Koeller, a cherished father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Machesney Park, IL, on January 9, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 68.
Born to Walter and Dorothy (Sisley) Koeller in Rockford, IL, on March 17, 1955, Steve graduated from Auburn High School in the class of 1973. Throughout his life, Steve pursued various careers, including working as a heat treat assembler, home siding installer, and later as the proud owner/operator of Prestige Travel Agency. He found joy in each endeavor until his well-deserved retirement.
Steve was a beacon of warmth and hospitality, known for his legendary parties and cookouts, where he delighted in the company of his son, neighbors, and lifelong friends. His adventurous spirit led him to explore the world through travel, indulge his passion for motorcycles, and meticulously restore classic cars, demonstrating his remarkable attention to detail and love for craftsmanship.
More than his accomplishments, Steve will be remembered for his compassionate nature and willingness to lend a helping hand, always accompanied by a radiant smile. He brought joy to all who crossed his path and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, son Joshua Koeller, and sister Susan Koeller. He is survived by Anita and Carl Krepfle of Machesney Park, IL; Edward and Joan Koeller of Walnut, CA; Gary and Christine Koeller of Rockford, IL; Kerissa and Evan Dart of Okemos, MI; Michele and Dan Burrows, Danielle and Brian Bakalar, and Chelsea Burrows of Ft. Myers, FL; as well as his great-great nephew Bennett and great-great niece Eliana in Ft. Myers, FL. Lastly, Eric Skarpac, Holly Skarpac, and Gabrielle (Tim) Tra and children - Tyson, Trysten, and Tatum of Las Vegas, NV.
Steve will be deeply missed by his lifelong best friends, Dave Roth of Littleton, CO, and Jodi Hess of Machesney Park, IL, as well as a multitude of special individuals who shared in Steve’s life throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. A heartfelt thank you is extended to Jodi, who provided loving care to Steve during his final days.
In accordance with Steve’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral or memorial service. Instead, we invite you to honor his memory by keeping him in your thoughts and celebrating the cherished moments shared with him.
