Harvey Share (Social Studies)

Harvey Aaron Share, 95, of Rockford, IL, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Wesley Willows.  Born February 2, 1928, in Gary, IN, the son of William and Rose (Ratner) Share.  Received a BA from Wabash College in 1949 and a master’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1950.  Married Natalie Patlove on June 29, 1952, in Philadelphia and moved to Rockford.  Taught at West High School and chaired the Social Studies Department at Auburn High School for 26 years.  Coordinated the law-focused education project for 13 years.  Contributed to the development of a course in Holocaust studies for public school teachers and received a scholarship for summer study at Yad Vashem.  Under sponsorship of Junior Achievement, taught economics to High School students in Sochi, Russia.  Retired from the Rockford Public Schools after 35 years of teaching, and later taught at Keith Country Day School for 15 years.

Member of Temple Beth-El, where he served as president, and member of Congregation Ohave Sholom and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.  Survivors include son, Paul (Susan) Share; daughters, Judy and Miriam; grandchildren, Ezra, Will, Madeline, Paulette, and Allison.  Predeceased by his parents; wife; and grandson, Martin.

Burial was at Rockford Hebrew Cemetery, 819 Cottage Grove Ave., Rockford. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL.
