J. Lloyd Geiger, 75, 2610 Pelham Road, died at 7:31 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 1992, in Swedish American Hospital Emergency Room after a sudden illness.  Born Aug. 23, 1917, in Nelson, Ill., son of Joseph and Mildred Smith Geiger.  Lived in Rockford since 1959, coming from Benton Harbor, Mich., where he taught for 13 years. 
Married Dorothy Ann “Dann” Kidd in Little Rock, Ark., March 26, 1943.  He was a teacher and coach in Rockford since then at Wilson and Auburn schools.  Served in the Army in South Pacific during World War II. 
Member Christ United Methodist Church, Alpine Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge 166, Freeport Consistory, Tebala Temple, Shrine clowns.
Grew up in Rock Falls.  Graduated from Carthage (Ill.) College, where he was an All-American halfback from 1935-1939 and fourth round draft choice of Detroit Lions; inducted in Carthage College Hall of Fame.
Obtained Master’s Degree at University of Iowa, and did post-graduate at Texas A&M and Florida A&M.
Survivors: his wife, DoAnn; four sons, Jay (Kathy) Geiger, Rockford, Gary (Mary Jo) Geiger, Loves Park, Harry “Chip” (Mary) Geiger, Rockford, Doak Geiger and Karen Copeland, Milwaukee, Wis.; sister Hazel Maynard, Rock Falls; 12 grandchildren. Predeceased by parents and a brother, Harold Geiger.
Memorial services at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, in Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home, 304 N. 5th St. with the Rev. Jim Moore and Rev. Norm Kearney of Christ United Methodist Church officiating.  Friends may call from 2 p.m. to services Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials in care of the family.
